The Single Regeneration Budget (SRB) has supported and continues to support a range of regeneration projects in the District of Easington.
The Single Regeneration Budget covers a variety of themes that include;
The SRB resources are intended to act as a catalyst for local sustainable regeneration, economic development and industrial competitiveness. Funding is provided for a defined period where each local partnership will achieve different outputs and outcomes.
In 1994 the East Durham Regeneration Partnership led by the District Council was successful in bidding and securing £4.636 million from Round One of the SRB. This together with public and private sector funding translates into an investment of some £13 million into Seaham and Murton over seven years.
The purpose of the SRB Round 1 Scheme was to;
The Scheme began in mid-summer 1995 and ended in March 2002, throughout its lifetime the scheme consisted of 24 projects aimed at addressing the above objectives.
During September 1999 the Regional Development Agency and OneNorthEast approved a county-wide partnership bid for £26 million. This funding was secured between all Districts within the County as well as supporting activities on a county-wide basis covering education, training, community resources, the voluntary sector, accessibility and health related issues.
The District of Easington received £4.69 million of SRB support in Round 5 for Dawdon and Parkside Wards in Seaham. Included in this bid were activities focussing on housing, environment, community based training and youth and community safety. Alongside other public money and private sector contributions, the budget being spent in the period 1999-2006 is in excess of £20 million pounds and covers nine projects.
In 2000 the County Partnership submitted the Promoting Strong, Healthy and Safe Communities in County Durham (Round 6 SRB Bid) which was approved in 2000 to the tune of £18.6 million. The District of Easington received £3.2million for projects across the District to include; community safety, employment, health and environmental projects.
This Partnership has since merged with the Round 5 SRB Scheme. Of the £44.85 million approved for the County - the District of Easington has received £7,936,000 combined with funding from Round 5 along with private sector contributions and other public sector support gives the District a budget for the area of approximately £26.7 million from 1998 through 2007.
