Activities for older people

The sports development team provide a wide range of activities, which are popular with older people.

The district has a number of parks and open spaces, along with a wide range of activities at our two Leisure Centres.

The service offers specific sporting events which aim to promote social and personal development, and physical interaction particularly with regard to health issues and improvement of quality life for local residents.

Short mat bowls leagues

The short mat bowls league was formed in 1991, the league has proved to be extremely popular with the more mature residents of the district. Running through the months of March to December the league is played on a format of:

As well as the league format the sports development team organise four annual open competitions played in Singles, Pairs, Triples and Rinks.
