Councillor Joan Freak Executive Member for Social Inclusion and Culture
The portfolio for Social Inclusion and Culture for the District of Easington has responsibility for addressing the needs of vulnerable people and under represented groups .
The Cabinet member networks with agencies, the voluntary and community sector. Liaises with, and undertakes partnership work with service providers to address issues such as domestic violence and the women's refuge.
A number of these initiatives have involved improvement to the quality of life for residents. Fuel poverty and affordable warmth, concessionary fares and the take up of pension credit and council tax rebate.
In addition to networking the cabinet member has given practical support to, teenage parents, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and visual and hearing impaired groups.
In relation to the every child matters agenda support is given to East Durham Positive Inclusion Partnership (EDPIP) and the youth forum, which both supports young people across the district.
This portfolio integrates with other portfolios in relation to developing strategies to address life long learning, housing and other needs.
