Social Inclusion objectives

'Social Inclusion is at the heart of everything we do as a council'

The District of Easington social inclusion unit was established in 2004 and aims to enable every person living in the District of Easington to have equal opportunities and take part in the decision making process that effects their lives. Our Action Plan was the result of a consultation event held on the 11th March, 2005.

The aims and objectives of the social inclusion team are to:   

• work in partnership with statutory and voluntary organisations to promote joined up services that address the causes of exclusion.
• facilitate community empowerment in the development and delivery of local services.
• develop initiatives which improve services for disadvantaged groups.
• promote an awareness and understanding of social exclusion and the need to address the problems which can trigger it.               
• support initiatives and programmes which lead to a more socially inclusive community.
• challenge actions and attitudes that contribute to social exclusion.
