Social inclusion

Social Inclusion is about helping to ensure that everyone feels able to contribute and be involved in their community.  This is aimed at people who often have to overcome barriers which prevent them from becoming involved.

About this service

Consultation event

The unit was formed in 2004, with the aim of enabling local people to fully take part in the decision making process which affects their everyday lives.  We also actively encourage you to become involved in local social activities and services.

The unit supports and delivers many activities within the District; the following are examples of some of the work carried out by the unit.

Low Income - affordable warmth strategy, the strategy details how the District and partner organisations are working together to tackle fuel poverty.

Development of Service Providers Directory for distribution district-wide.

Councillors Guide - training package developed Autumn 2006, initial training completed February 2007, further training planned for September, 2007.

East Durham Positive Inclusion Partnership (EDPIP) - this group aims to facilitate the positive inclusion of disabled children, young people and their families in mainstream services and facilities.

Pride in Easington - this is a new initiative aimed at encouraging people living in the district to become involved in addressing some of the environmental and community safety issues that can affect the condition of local neighbourhoods.
