Your local coast and countryside facilities

Working closely with the local community, landowners and various environmental organisations, the District of Easington Council's coast and countryside ranger service aims to provide a coast and countryside that is attractive, and accessible to all sections of the community, while safeguarding and enhancing its wildlife, natural and historic features.

You can join in on the wide range of events run by the coast and countryside ranger service: guided walks, activity days and conservation events or help out by acting as a volunteer ranger for your local patch.

The rangers are able to provide you with information about where to visit and what to do in your local coast and countryside areas.

About this service

Volunteer rangers.

Volunteer rangers provide added support for the safeguarding of local natural areas. By regularly patrolling their local patch they can act as the eyes and ears for the local environment.

Volunteer ranger training days are regularly provided by the coast and countryside rangers. This training covers subjects including safe working practices, what to look out for, wildlife identification, map reading skills and incident reporting.

The coast and countryside rangers work within the stretch of coastline that runs from Seaham in the North down to Crimdon dene in the South. They are also responsible for patrolling the Haswell to Hart cycleway route.
