Council lettings - garages
The District of Easington owns a number of garage sites throughout the district which are managed by the Asset and Property Management Unit.
These plots are let on an annual basis with tenants responsible for erecting their own garage.
Alternatively, East Durham Homes manage numerous brick built garages.

What you must do
If you are interested in a garage tenancy or wish to be placed on the waiting list for one of our sites, please complete and return an application form.
If you already have a garage tenancy and wish to transfer it to another party please complete and return the transfer form, however this does not guarantee that the transfer will take place as there may be a waiting list for that site.
What we must do
Please refer to the terms and conditions of the garage tenancy.
What happens next?
An acknowledgement to correspondence will be received by the customer within seven working days and a full response will be provided within six weeks.
What are the charges for this service?
The annual rent for a garage plot is £50.
This is reviewed annually.

Do I need planning permission to erect a garage?
Yes. Please contact the Planning and Building Control Services for more information.
My friend wants to buy my garage. Who do I need to contact about this?
If you sell your garage please contact the Asset and Property Management Unit with details of the new owner in order that council records can be amended and the necessary invoice be sent to the new owner.
Who is responsible for keeping the garage site tidy?
The Asset and Property Management Unit carries out periodic maintenance. The individual plot is the responsibility of the tenant. Please contact us if you have any further queries.
Do I have to be a council tenant if I want to rent a garage plot from the council?
No, you do not have to be a council tenant. Anyone can apply for a Council garage plot
How much does it cost to rent a garage plot?
The annual fee for renting a garage plot is £50.
