The Council has powers to ensure that owners keep their land and/or buildings in a satisfactory condition and to ensure that development or advertisements have the necessary permissions. Officers will also try to ensure that buildings are constructed in accordance with planning approvals and that planning conditions are met. Where there is a breach of planning control, untidy land/buildings or illegal advertisement, action will normally only be taken where there is a clear adverse impact on the area. Legal action can be a lengthy process and is normally open to challenge.
