No street collection may take place in a public place within the Easington District without a valid 'street collection permit'. Permits are issued by the Licensing section.
There is no cost for the issuing of a permit but there are rules to be followed in applying. Street Collections may be made on behalf of charities, local sports clubs.
A 'public place' is a 'place where the public has access'. It is often assumed that if collections are held in shop doorways or car parks they do not need a Street Collection Permit because they are being held on 'privately owned land'. A shop doorway or carpark, when that place is open, is a 'public place' because the public has access at that time.
This authority limits each charity/club to 2 collections per year for the sake of fairness to all. Collections are Granted for a specific location, usually in a town centre on busy shopping days and the money must be collected in a sealed container.
There are regulations which govern the handling of the proceeds and returns must be made to the local authority detailing the amounts collected. This form will be sent to you once your application form has been received.
Applications must be received at least 28 days before it is planned to hold the collection. It is advisable to contact this office before submitting an application to ensure the date requested has not already been allocated to another organisation. We do not permit two collections in the same place on the same day.Name: Licensing Administration Assistant
