Any public performance of a film exhibition is controlled under the Licensing Act 2003. The Act does not just apply to cinema premises but also includes exhibitions produced by video equipment such as video juke boxes in pubs, video screens in nightclubs and playing of pre-recorded videos in any circumstances. (For example: race nights.)

About this service

From November 2005 premises carrying out the above activities are required to be licensed under the Licensing Act 2003. 

Certain types of activities are exempt such as exhibitions of films as part of a display in art galleries, showing of films in respect of advertisement, information or education.

The broadcast of live television is not licensable.
