Easington Safety Advisory Group

The Easington Safety Advisory Group (SAG) is a multi agency body set up to promote public safety at organised events within the Easington district. This could be carnivals, fun days, marches, music festivals etc staged in a public place or on the highway.

About this service

The SAG comprises representatives from the Police, Fire Authority,Ambulance Service, Highways Authority, Durham County Council public transport, the relevant Health and Safety authority and the Coast Guard.

Organisers are encouraged to consult with the group before going ahead with their events. The group will offer advice on general health and safety requirements, fire prevention, first aid, methods of crowd control and evacuation procedures, communications, catering, litter disposal and noise levels.

The group will also give advice regarding traffic management and/or road closures, which are required for events taking place on the public highway.

Organisers will need to complete an event guidance pack for consideration by the SAG. The pack is structured to lead applicants through the processes needed to arrange a successful event, including risk assessments, pre-planning, final preparations, the event itself and post event. It gives some general guidance but is not exhaustive and additional advice may need to be sought.

Copies of the application pack can be requested from the Licensing section on 0191 5270501 and should be completed as far in advance of the event as possible but at least 28 days prior. Organisers may be requested to attend the SAG if there are any queries on the application.
