The District of Easington has three handypersons. The posts are funded by District of Easington, Social Care & Health and Durham Primary Care Trust to help prevent accidents in the home for the elderly and vulnerable people of the District. They will repair loose carpets, fit curtain rails and general handyperson repairs. Due to the high demand they are not able to carry out house decoration work or gardening.
If you require further information on the scheme please use your intercom or contact Care Services at the Council offices on 0191 527 0501, ext 4341.
Please note the Handypersons are able to offer the following FREE services, which are available to all older & vulnerable people in the District to help them stay at home:
Securing loose carpets
Provision and fitting of grab rails
Changing light bulbs
Fitting free smoke alarms
Fitting and provision of security items for example, door viewers, snap locks and window locks.
The service is available Monday – Friday 8.30am – 4.30pm. For more information please phone 0191 5271089 (24 hours) if you are connected to the Warden Service. Please ask your Warden or use your intercom.
