More details about the scheme

From 2005 anyone 60 and over who is a homeowner in Easington District will be eligible for free home insulation measures. The scheme is aimed at helping the over 60's stay warmer in their homes, reduce the cost of heating bills, reduce fuel poverty and cold related illness. The scheme is called the Easington Over 60's Free Insulation Scheme.

To date over 2500 homes have been insulated free of charge with this scheme.

This scheme is very different to other schemes as the homeowner does not have to be in receipt of any benefits to qualify for the insulation measures.

If you know anyone who maybe interested in the scheme please ask them to contact Dyson Insulation Ltd on freephone 0800 833 018 and quote the “Easington Over 60's free Insulation Scheme.” They will receive a free home survey from Dyson Insulation Ltd to check if the property is suitable to have insulation measures installed. Following this survey the insulation measures will be installed at no cost to the homeowner.

The Governments Neighbourhood Renewal Fund and Energy Efficiency Commitment will be supplying the funding for the scheme. The scheme will be the first of its kind in County Durham and will be managed by Scottish Power Ltd with Dyson Insulation Ltd installing the free home insulation measures.

The scheme has been promoted in the local press and local radio. A district wide leaflet drop has been carried out to ensure all residents in Easington District know about the scheme and have the opportunity to apply to the scheme. Door to door promotions are taking place in all settlements throughout Easington District along with promotions at community venues. The Pension Service and Welfare Rights are also involved in the scheme to provide support and advice to encourage uptake of the Pension Credit to maximise income to over 60's homeowners.

However funding is limited so we advise you to apply for the scheme as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

If you know any Community Group that are able to promote the scheme please contact:
