The Crime and Disorder Act 1998 placed a statutory duty upon the police, district and county councils to co-operate with a wide range of other partner organisations in developing and implementing a strategy for tackling crime and disorder in their local area.
The first strategy (1999 - 2002) built upon a firm foundation of partnership working in Easington to take joint working to a new level in the district.
The second strategy 2002 – 2005 continued this work and there were significant programmes of work carried out through the Partnership to reduce crime in this period.
The third strategy, which will run from 2005 – 2008, reviews the previous strategy and shows how the Audit of crime and disorder and consultation has contributed to how priorities and targets have been developed.
