Application Process

Pre-Application Advice

We will provide free pre-application advice on building control matters. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you are unsure whether your proposed works require Building Regulation consent. We will also give advice and guidance where plans do not show compliance.

Application Submission

There are two ways in which an application can be made...

Application Plan Vetting

Your application will be checked by one of our Building Control Service Officer’s. We will acknowledge all Building Regulation applications within 2 working days.   There is a statutory time limit of 5 weeks (extendable to 2 months with agreement) in which we must determine your submission although our aim will always be to process your application as quickly as possible. We will give advice and guidance where plans do not show compliance.

Application Inspection

Once the work starts, the builder or owner must notify the Council at various stages, so work can be inspected to ensure compliance with the Regulations.

Completion Certificates

Once all necessary inspections are done and the works are satisfactory, we will then issue to you a completion certificate.  This is an important document and should be kept in a safe place.  This will be required by a Solicitor if you decide to sell your property.
