Business rates - Rural Rate Relief

Certain types of businesses in rural villages with a population below 3000 may qualify for rate relief.

The following villages in our district are designated as rural:

A sole post office or general store in any of the villages listed above with a rateable value of £7000 or less will qualify for 50% mandatory relief.

Sole public houses and sole petrol filling stations in a any of the villages listed above with a rateable value of £10500 or less will also qualify for 50% mandatory relief.

In all of the above cases we have discretion to remit all or part of the remaining 50% charge.

Other businesses in the designated rural villages may qualify for relief provided they can satisfy that the business is to the benefit of the local community.

In awarding such relief we have to have regard for the council taxpayers in the district.
