Accountancy and Payments

Accountancy and Payments is a section within the Financial Management Unit, the other sections being Internal Audit and Revenues.

The section provides a full range of professional accountancy services and advice to the Council as well as providing strategic financial planning.

About this service

Corporate Role

• contributing to the financial planning and strategy of the Council
• preparing, co-ordinating and monitoring budgets
• preparing statutory accounts and statements within legislative frameworks        

Support Role

• assisting, advising and providing meaningful financial information to Members and other Officers of the Council
• providing information, advice and financial planning on the management of VAT
• managing the day to day cash balances, making investments and taking out loans on behalf of the Council in accordance with the Councils Treasury Management policy
• providing payments to all of the Councils creditors and giving advice on issues surrounding this process (for example CIS, VAT)
