Video gamers could scoop themselves a brand new console by helping to promote recycling services in East Durham.
Pupils at secondary schools across District of Easington are being challenged to design a poster encouraging people to do their bit for the environment.
The winning design will be displayed across the area and the young artist who created it will receive an Xbox 360 or Nintendo Wii.
The competition has been organised by recycling firm Greencycle and is backed by District of Easington Council’s Pride in Easington campaign.
Phil Bainbridge, Greencycle Recycling Education Officer, said: “About 200,000 tonnes of waste are sent to landfill each year in County Durham alone but we could dramatically reduce this figure if we recycled more.
“Using the kerbside box and recycling bag are easy ways in which we can all make a difference.
“We’re hoping young people in East Durham will help us spread that message by creating a colourful, eye-catching poster that will be seen by residents across the district.”
The competition is open to young people in years 7 and 8 only and the closing date for entries is Monday, 8 December.
Designs should have a strong visual image and should include a picture of the kerbside collection box and green recycling bag.
Entrants are encouraged to come up with their own slogan but can use “Do your bit” if they wish.
