Young disabled people are a step closer to heading off on the holiday of a lifetime thanks to generous East Durham shoppers.
Customers at Asda, Seaham donated more than £760 when members of East Durham Positive Inclusion Partnership’s (EDPIP) Out of the Shadows group held a bag pack at the store.
The group is hoping to raise £20,000 to send 15 of its members, who suffer from a range of disabilities, on a trip to Disneyland Paris.
Young members of Dawdon Adventure Club joined in the fundraising efforts, helping to boost the day’s total to £763.40.
Alison Donoghue, EDPIP Manager, said: “We have held bag packs before but we have never raised so much money in one day. People were extremely generous and the young people are very grateful.”
Next month, the group will host a dinner and charity auction at Seaham Hall Hotel, with items including a designer bracelet, Harrods hamper and tracksuit from the David Beckham Academy due to go under the hammer.
Tickets for the event on Friday, 21 November cost £40 and are available by contacting Alison on (0191) 527 0501.
