Residents of two forming mining villages are being invited to air their views on potential improvement schemes for their communities.
District of Easington Council appointed a firm of planning consultants earlier this year to look at options for the regeneration of Thornley and Wheatley Hill.
Initial development plans have now been put together and members of the public are being given the chance to take a look at them during a series of drop-in sessions to be held at the following locations:
· Youll House, Thornley:
Monday, 8 September
2.30pm to 6.30pm
· Wheatley Hill Family Centre, Jack Lawson Terrace:
Tuesday, 9 September
9am to noon
· Wheatley Hill Community Centre, Front Street:
Tuesday, 9 September
2.30pm to 6.30pm
The final proposals will aim to increase investment in the villages, create a more attractive village centre and residential environment and improve housing provision.
Coun Morris Nicholls, ward member for Thornley and Wheatley Hill, said: “Both villages have suffered significant decline since the closure of the mines but this is an opportunity to breathe new life in to them.
“Any work carried out should benefit everyone who lives in Thornley and Wheatley Hill so I would encourage residents to come along to one of the drop-in sessions and make sure their opinions are taken into account.”
