Businesses are being encouraged to add spice to a celebration of world cuisine.
Eat Around the World in Easington will offer visitors the chance to sample the wide variety of food and drink on offer around the district.
Restaurants, hotels, cafes, pubs and food stores in East Durham are all being invited to take part in the event, which will run from September 15 to 21.
The event, which is being organised by District of Easington Council, will also give local businesses the chance to promote their venue or products to new customers.
Melanie Lowes, Tourism Officer, said: “Any business serving food is invited to take part in the district’s second food festival.
“It is a wonderful opportunity for venues to showcase their offerings and for visitors and residents to sample the excellent array of food on offer in East Durham.”
Participating businesses are asked to come up with interesting new dishes, develop new and exciting themes and offer special promotions and discounts during the festival. As well as giving people in the district the chance to try different dishes, it is hoped the event will attract new visitors to the area.
A number of local businesses have already signed up to support the event, including Seaham Hall Hotel’s Ozone Restaurant and Castle Eden Inn.
The hotel will be offering a special six course menu of Pan Asian Tapas, taster dishes, for £20 and diners will also have the chance to take part in a food quiz to win a free spa day for two or a bottle of Champagne.
Castle Eden Inn will be running a Stone Soup week, based on the Grimm Brothers’ tale of soldiers returning from war and attempting to encourage a selfish town to learn the lesson of cooperation and its benefits.
Diners are invited to bring local produce to the pub to add to the pot and in return will receive a free bowl of soup. Alternatively they can make a donation to charity.
