Volunteers needed to help boost pride

Can you spare a few hours to help make a major community festival a success?

District of Easington Council is appealing for volunteers to lend a hand at the annual Pride in Easington Family Fun Day at Dalton Park next month.

Last year, the crowds turned out in force to enjoy the fun and the Pride team are hoping this year’s event will be even bigger and better with attractions including live bands, art workshops, sports sessions and pony rides.

However, the help and support of local people is vital in if the event, from 10am to 3.30pm, on Saturday, 5 July is to be a success.

Michelle Morton, Pride in Easington Officer, said: “Pride in Easington is very much a community-based campaign so we are really keen to get residents involved in running what is our biggest public event of the year.

“We need helpers to carry out a range of tasks from manning stalls and helping to run activity sessions to picking up litter and acting as marshals.

“Everyone who volunteers will not only be making a big difference on the day but will also be demonstrating their support for the Pride campaign.”

The annual fun day was launched last year to celebrate the successes of the campaign so far and showcase the organisations and service working to improve life in the district.

Visitors to this year’s event will have the chance to take part in a circus skills class, add their design to a wall of art and create their own t-shirt on board the Blitzbus.

Other activities and attractions will include cycle rides around the parkland, rare breed animals from Down at the Farm and children’s rides.

Volunteers should be aged 16 or over unless accompanied by an adult and will need to be on site by 9.15am on the day of the event in order to be briefed.
