Free nationwide travel for over 60s

A bus

Free bus travel throughout England is now available to people aged 60 and over, and those registered disabled.

As from 1 April, residents who qualify for concessionary travel will be eligible for free off-peak travel on local buses anywhere in the country.

People living in District of Easington will also enjoy additional benefits to the national scheme, such as free travel at anytime for journeys starting in County Durham, except for certain night-time services, and half-fare train travel from Seaham Station to and from Newcastle and Middlesbrough, including stations in between.

In addition, if a disabled passenger is unable to make a journey without assistance, the person accompanying them may also be entitled to travel for free.

Anyone who is 60 or over, or registered disabled can apply for a free bus permit, which will be issued on proof of entitlement.

Pass holders are reminded that changes of address should be reported to District of Easington Council. A charge may be made for replacing lost permits after 1 April.

For further information contact the concessionary Travel Section at District of Easington Council on (0191) 527 0501.
