Come and experience ‘Community Life’ at Peterlee show

Staff at the Peterlee show

Members of the public will be able to find out more about their local council at this year’s Peterlee Show.

This annual event, to be held on Saturday, 2 and Sunday, 3 September, will feature staff from District of Easington Council exhibiting in ‘The Community Life’ marquee.

The two-day event will see the Arts Development unit getting crafty with kite and dream catcher making, the Youth Forum working to recruit new members and the Council’s Benefits unit will also be there with their calculators, advising people what they are entitled to.

Street Wardens will be asking members of the public their views on the services they provide, as well as offering many useful and fun giveaways; the Tourism unit will be promoting the lovely walks in the district and the Recycling unit will be running competitions such as ‘guess the tonnage waste’ as well as having a Kerb-it van on the show field for all to see. Representatives from the Community Safety Unit will be there offering advice on how to stay safe in the district.

Easington Primary Care Trust’s ‘Get Active’ team will be promoting their equipment loan scheme whereby members of the public can take sports equipment home and return it at a later date. A representative from Aimhigh Routeback will also be on hand to help people on incapacity benefits to get back to work.

Other organisations exhibiting in the Community Life tent include, East Durham Business Service, East Durham Homes, Peterlee Regeneration Framework, the Fire Service, Pathfinder, Crime Prevention, Peterlee Leisure Centre, Peterlee Town Council and Durham County Council.
